Citing recent mass shootings in Newtown, Conn., and elsewhere, commissioners on Tuesday night followed the lead of their counterparts in Weston and called on state legislators to repeal a state law that prevents cities from regulating firearms in parks, government buildings and other city facilities.

Commissioners said the issue is really about home rule and the ability of cities to determine what is best for their residents.

“One size never fits all,” Commissioner Bobby DuBose said. “It’s different in Fort Lauderdale than in Tallahassee.”
