The combination rifle/shotgun has always been popular in a Europe, where the versatility of having the instant selection of bullet or shot is valued by hunters, but not so much here. There has been one exception—the Savage Model 24. Eventually someone there at Savage figured that if the Model 24 was as successful as it was, why couldn’t it be again? After all, the reasons folks used to justify buying one haven’t changed. The result of that cogitation was the development of the Model 42, a stylized version of what is still basically the Model 24.
