Baton Rouge PD to Host Equalizer Women’s Self-Defense Class

The class covers reducing the risk of becoming a victim, defensive striking, common grab defenses, head-lock defenses, and more.

If you live in Baton Rouge and are interested in learning how to protect yourself, the Baton Rouge Police Department is hosting the Equalizer Women’s Self-Defense class in November.

According to WAFB, the class will take place at the Baton Rouge Police Department Training Academy, which is located at 9000 Airline Hwy in the building behind the parking garages. Class times are from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m.

The class is broken up into four parts. The first session is set for Wednesday, November 12. The second session will take place the very next day. After that, the class reconvenes for its third session on Tuesday, November 18 before finishing up on Thursday, November 20.

As WAFB reports, the course covers: acts about violence against women, reducing the risk of becoming a victim, defensive striking, common grab defenses, head-lock defenses, bear hug defenses, striking and knife defense and group escapes.

One must attend all four classes to be certified.

The Equalizer Women’s Self-Defense class is completely free of charge and open to women over the age of 13. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing for physical activities.
