An home intruder in Southern California learned the hard way that you should never bring a knife to a gunfight.
The Whittier Daily News reports that a woman at a home on Graystone Avenue in Norwalk was awoken at around 2:30 a.m. by suspicious noises coming from the front of the house.
“The suspect proceeded to go to the rear of the residence, where he broke through french doors armed with a knife,” Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Rene Garcia said.
The woman’s children and a male resident were also inside the home at the time. The male resident managed to grab a gun and shoot the knife-wielding intruder in the torso during a confrontation.
The unidentified suspect immediately fled the scene, but was apprehended by authorities a block away from the home. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.

Thankfully, nobody inside the house was hurt during the incident.
Police continue to investigate, but the male resident has not been arrested, as this appears to be a justified self-defense shooting, the Whittier Daily News said.
