An integrated and powerful weapon light fits both of these needs. Insight Technology, a subsidiary of L3 Communications, which also manufactures the EOTech Holographic Weapon Sight, is now offering the first shotgun forend with an integrated LED weapon light: the TSFL-LED.
Built from a tough polymer, it features ergonomic construction and a nonslip texture. The integral, flush-mounted LED produces 120 lumens and has a run-time of 90 minutes of constant-on using one CR123 lithium battery, which can be easily replaced with the removable tail cap. Operation is very easy with the ambidextrous, rubberized pressure pads and a left-side-mounted on/off toggle switch to prevent unintentional activation. (The toggle switch cannot be moved to the right side.) Use the multifunction pressure pads to get momentary lighting by pressing and holding either pad, constant-on by double-tapping the pad and releasing it, or strobe by double-tapping the pad and holding it. In addition to the light’s blinding effect, the strobe can cause significant disorientation for anyone on the receiving end.
Insight has a well-earned reputation for building tough weapon lights, and the TSFL-LED is certainly no exception. It is waterproof to 3.28 feet of immersion for up to 30 minutes, will operate in temperatures from -14 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit, and has been shock- and endurance-tested to withstand over 3,000 rounds of 12-gauge slugs and a 4-foot drop. At 8.6 inches long and just over 12 ounces, the TSFL-LED does not add significant weight or mass to the standard shotgun forend it replaces.
