Smith’s Consumer Products, Inc., of Hot Springs, Arkansas, announced the introduction of a new model to its popular line of Pocket Pal® multi-functional knife sharpeners geared toward the outdoor enthusiast. “The new Pocket Pal® X2 Sharpener and Survival Tool (model #50364) is the regular Pocket Pal Knife Sharpener on steroids,” stated Richard Smith, President. Smith goes on to say, “Our new Pocket Pal® X2 is lightweight, compact, and durable just like our current Pocket Pal, but with all the added features of a standard survival kit. It is sure to be a hit with backpackers, hikers, campers, and outdoor sports enthusiasts.”
The new X2 features the same COARSE and FINE pull-through sharpening slots and tapered diamond rod as the current Pocket Pal but adds a fire starter, compass, LED light, and signal whistle to its compact frame. As a sharpener, the X2 will sharpen everything from a very dull or damaged standard edge blade to the already sharp serrated edge that just needs a quick touchup. The fixed angle, PREMIUM carbide blades and ceramic stones will sharpen both sides of your knife blade at the same time and are replaceable to extend the life of the sharpener. The fold-out, tapered diamond rod will restore a sharp edge on various size serrations, gut hooks, and single-bevel knife blades. It stores in the bottom of the housing when not in use.
The survival features of the Pocket Pal X2 may come in handy when you least expect it. There is a push-button LED light for use in low light conditions, a high-pitched whistle to signal your position if needed, a compass to assist with directional travel, and a fire starter with twice the spark of normal fire starting tools. Directions and warning statements for proper use of each of these features are included on back of the packaging.
The slim, compact Pocket Pal X2 measures approximately 3 ” in length and 1 ” in width and weighs just 1.75 ounces. It is available at sporting goods and hardware retailers, via online and mail order catalogs, or direct from Smith’s at smithsproducts.com.
