A farmer is not expected to face charges after a man was shot and killed Monday evening near South Haven.
Sumner County Sheriff Darren Chambers said 42 year-old Joseph Lemasters of Creston, Iowa, was on the run for various crimes when he failed to pay a toll on the Kansas Turnpike earlier in the day.
Lemasters bailed out the the vehicle, fearing troopers would respond to the toll gate. Chambers said Lemasters ran into a wooded area, where deputies and troopers searched from the air and on foot.
Three hours past, before Lemasters was spotted on a county road and ran near a house. Chambers said the farmer was concerned about nearby relatives and followed Lemasters to the home.
