A 37-year-old homeowner tackled a burglary suspect early Monday morning as he was trying to escape a Maltbie Avenue home with pockets full of stolen items, police said.
Jaime Tovias-Umana, 19, of New Jersey was not light enough on his feet as he walked through Peter Cronk’s house shortly before 5 a.m., police said.
Cronk, a mechanic with no combat or defense training — and no handgun at home — said he was sleeping in his bedroom with his wife, Suzanne, and their 6-month-old daughter, Nina, when he heard a door inside his house close.
He looked through his bedroom door, saw a figure passing and quickly rose to address the situation.
