The owner of a donut shop in San Francisco’s Visitacion Valley neighborhood was shot in the arm while trying to thwart a robbery at the store early this morning, a police spokesman said.

The incident was reported at about 3 a.m. at the Happy Donut at 2600 Bayshore Blvd. at Sunnydale Avenue.

A suspect entered the donut shop and demanded money from a female employee at the cash register, police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy said.

The owner heard the commotion and came out from the back of the store to find the suspect armed with a gun, Shyy said.

The owner grabbed a knife and a struggle ensued, during which the owner was shot in the arm and the robber was stabbed, according to Shyy.
