High Street in downtown New Philadelphia, Ohio
An E. High Avenue resident believes that he and his girlfriend were spared an uncertain fate after he pulled a gun on an intruder in his apartment early Sunday.
The resident was awakened by a noise around 2 a.m. and said he saw a man in the doorway to his bedroom.
“When he was in the door, I grabbed the gun and pulled the trigger three times, but it didn’t go off,” the resident told The Times-Reporter on Sunday night.
The resident said he threw his girlfriend off the bed and told her to stay on the floor. The intruder at that time yelled to someone else — believed to be an accomplice in another room — and said, “He’s got a gun!” and they both fled out the front door.
