Challenged with 12 tough stages, plus drastic weather changes, many of the nation’s top action shooters competed this past weekend (April 19-21) at the 2013 USPSA Area 6 Championship match held in St. Augustine, Florida. Hosting the event was Ancient City Range, whose covered range house was greatly appreciated by shooters looking to escape Friday’s hot sun and Saturday’s nearly freezing rain!

Each competitor expended over the course of the event more than 250 rounds on steel, stationary and moving targets. The Florida Army National Guard, the official sponsor, was on hand to provide tents—as were numerous other major companies and organizations, including Docter USA, Red Dot Shooting, Shooters Connection, Competitive Edge Dynamics, Comp-Tac, STI International, FNH USA, Velocity Shooter, Glock, NSSF, SIG SAUER, Springfield Armory, HolsterOps.com and Ranier Ballistics.

In the Limited Division, the top honors went to Travis Tomasie, Manny Bragg and Lesgar Murdock, while in the Open Division, David Pruitt, Bill Drummond and Team Glock’s KC Eusebio emerged victorious. Production champs were Matthew Mink, Brandon Wright and Sonny Morton III. The Single Stack division top three included Max Michel, Dave Sevigny and USPSA President Phil Strader. High Junior went to Jason Katz in Production division, while Production High Lady went to Team Glock’s Tori Nonaka.

Overall, the match was a well-attended success, despite the bipolar weather. The competitors enjoyed the camaraderie and the sheer pleasure of action shooting, as did the audience, whose applause and cheers could frequently be heard after the completion of each stage.
