A Burlington home owner early Wednesday prevented an intruder from entering his home by bashing the man with a baseball bat, Burlington Police said.

The intruder was later found with minor injuries and faces a charge of unlawful trespass, police said.

Police said that shortly before 4:45 a.m. Wednesday, they received a call reporting a man was trying to force his way into a residence on Ridgewood Road.

Authorities said the home owner told them a man, later identified as Joseph Gilbert, 25, tried to push his way into the house, but the home owner hit Gilbert with a baseball bat.
