A community center in Texas is seeing the benefit of self-defense training… as a fundraising tool.

The HOPE Center in Lufkin, TX recently hosted a self-defense seminar in the effort of raising funds for afterschool programs and other initiatives for those in need.

“Those extra fundraisers help us… with the kids, help us with our feeding program,” said Yvette Hadnot, an employee at the Hope Center.

During Saturday’s workshop, women learned various defenses against unknown attacks.

“Grabs from in front, grabs from the sides things like that common grabs and attacks,” said T.J. Martinez, Instructor, ATA Black Belt Academy.
