Dave Hollenbach, graphic designer and veteran, now has a provisional patent for a bulletproof student desk, and created a prototype in his basement. His design fits onto an existing elementary school desk and features a fiberglass panel sandwiched between two laminated boards, which stops the bullets. In his design, the top of the desk is on a hinge, and can flip up to make a shield. Another panel is fitted to the front of the desk, and extends down to the floor.
