Women are taking self-defense into their own hands in Boston as self-defense classes have seen a rise in the number of attendees.
Some are attributing the increase in the number of participants to the recent murder of 22-year-old Amy Lord. Lord was reportedly brutally attacked and beaten by Edwin Alemany, forced to drive to five different ATM’s to withdraw money, and then stabbed to death.
Julia Medzhitova, who is now attending classes at the Ultimate Self Defense studio, said she saw a little of Lord within herself. “Her lifestyle, the description of her made me realize there’s no reason it wasn’t somebody like us,” said Medzhitova.
