A poll conducted by Ball State University shows that most Midwestern college students don’t support guns on campus.

The study of 1,649 undergraduates at 15 Midwestern colleges found that 78 percent of students surveyed opposed concealed handguns on campus and would not obtain a permit to carry one if it were made legal. Students said they wouldn’t feel safe if faculty, students and visitors had weapons on campus. About 66 percent of of students said carrying a gun wouldn’t make them feel less likely to be troubled by others.

Ball State researcher Jagdish Khubchandani said the study should be used to help inform lawmakers on whether to allow concealed-carry permit holders to bring guns to colleges.
