In Williamson County, Illinois thousands of residents plan to apply for permits in January 2014, when the new concealed carry law takes effect. But people looking to bear arms may wonder about the potential liability if you use the gun to protect yourself.

“[They ask questions like] Do I need insurance? Is my homeowners policy going to cover me? And what’s out there?” Doug Brandon said of Bracy Insurance and licensed by the NRA.

Brandon says typical homeowner policies exclude intended acts, which means you likely wouldn’t be covered.
