The United Gun Owners of New York State have one simple goal: to get the legislature to repeal the SAFE Act.
The SAFE (Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement) Act makes it illegal to own a magazine that holds more than 10 bullets and also makes it illegal to put more than seven bullets in the clip. Putting an eighth round in the gun incurs a stiffer penalty than being convicted of criminally negligent homicide.
Sellers of ammunition are required to do background checks similar to those now required of gun dealers before the sale of a firearm.
