Gun owners in New Zealand may need to update their licenses immediately, as a new law on importing air gun, and the type of pistol grip used on semi-automatic rifles comes into effect.

As of now, some formerly A-category semi-automatic firearms will be classed as military style semi-automatics, because of their free-standing pistol grip.
Nicole McKee from the Mountain Safety Council says police are allowing a lead-in period to give gun owners time to get up to speed with the new law.
