In Mount Olive Township, New Jersey due to concerns about tighter gun-control laws since the December 2012 residents have been requesting permission to purchase rifles, and guns at a pace much higher than in past years, per law enforcement.
The growth in applications for firearms and handgun permits followed the Connecticut shootings, triggering a national debate about gun laws.
The state has some of the strongest gun-control laws in the nation, but Officer Eric Anthony, who processes firearms applications for the police, said the surge has, apparently, been prompted by fears after the Connecticut shooting that the federal government would sharply limit the right to possess rifles, guns and other firearms.
