In Du Quoin, Illinois Roger Dennis owner of the new shooting range at MorMad Lodging & Farms, MorMad, named after his daughters Morgan and Madison, began as a single cabin in 1999, is gearing up to host concealed carry classes in a building he is constructing called the Gunsmoke Grill. Dennis expanded the rustic lodging to four two-person cabins by 2008 and in 2012.
That’s what inspired the former Du Quoin police officer to create the Wildcat Way pistol range and the Rattlesnake rifle range on 20 of the 40 acres of ground he and his wife own on Holly Road east of Du Quoin.
The Rattlesnake range features 100 steel targets with a maximum 400-yard shot. The Wildcat Way range is a 50-by-50-yard range with steel knock downs, bowling pins and a shooting tree.
His timing couldn’t have been better, with concealed carry becoming state law last July.
