In Texas handgun training is now offered at Jacksonville College, including a security officer certification for students and the community.
JC Chief of Security and instructor for the courses Michael Morse, is a National Rifle Association (NRA) Certified Handgun/Shotgun Firearms Instructor and a Concealed Handgun Instructor certified by the Texas Department of Public Safety in Austin.
For a fee, anyone in the community can take advantage of the concealed handgun training offered at the college. The Concealed Handgun License (CHL) course will take four to six hours, followed by a shooting proficiency test. Qualified individuals who successfully complete the training will be licensed to carry concealed handguns in the state of Texas. The college has also received certification from the Texas Department of Public Safety to teach the Private Security Level III Security Officer Class. During the course, students can be qualified with a handgun as well as a shotgun. After successful completion of the 40 hour course, students will be certified to work as armed security officers. The college is also able to offer re-certifications for those officers currently employed.
