A mattress store owner in Charlotte, N.C., was forced to open fire on a duo of armed robbers after a gun was pointed at his face.

The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Wholesale Mattress Warehouse, located on the 7100 block of South Boulevard.

WSOC-TV spoke with the owner’s wife:

She said her husband was inside the store when the attempted robbery happened. A man put a gun in her husband’s face, demanded his cell phone and any money in the store, and threatened to kill him if he did not comply.

Then, the woman said, her husband turned around, pretending to get money, but instead pulled out a gun and shot one of the suspects. The suspect fired back but didn’t hit him, she said.

Charges are currently pending against the suspects.
