According to WREG, the class will see martial arts experts presenting a number of different scenarios to show participants how to get away from a carjacker, and how to take a gun away from an assailant.
While it is not worth risking your life just to save your vehicle, being prepared is always a good idea.
“A car is not worth fighting for, but if you find yourself in a situation where you can’t just give it to them– if you’ve got a child in the car or a family member and you can’t give up your car then you need tools to know how to fight,” said Patrick Terry with Mid-South Krav Maga.
Terry told WREG that one should never get into a car with a criminal, under any circumstances. It is better to fight them off and try to escape.
The best defense, however, is to make it virtually impossible for the carjacker to get inside the car. Terry recommends keeping the windows rolled up and the doors locked when driving, and always leave enough space between your car and the car in front of you to give yourself a way to escape.
The carjacking self-defense seminar is set for Saturday, June 14, from 2-4 p.m.
