A homeowner shot a would-be burglar who was attempting to break into his home in northwest Miami-Dade County.

According to WPLG Local 10, the incident occurred on Tuesday night near Northwest 14th Avenue and 138th Street. Miami-Dade police said the homeowner and his wife — who have not been identified — were at home when they heard two men trying to break in.

The homeowner pulled out his gun and shot one of the men. The other suspect managed to escape.

As WPLG reports, the wounded would-be burglar was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. His condition is not yet available.

Meanwhile, police continue to search for the second suspect.
