A new self-defense class at Lone Star College in Kingwood, Texas, is teaching mothers and daughters how to protect themselves in dangerous situations.
Diane Blanco, director of the Lone Star College Women’s Center, told News 92 FM what students can expect from the class.
“A part of what we try to teach is never getting in that situation, raising your awareness where are you looking around watching for suspicious people, and not becoming paranoid but simply alert,” she said.
According to News 92 FM, Blanco got the idea for the class while conducting research on domestic violence. Females must be aware of potential threats, both from strangers and people they know.
“You still need to be able to say no and also get away from them,” Blanco said.
The class is open to women ages 14 and up. The next session is scheduled for October.
