A homeowner shot and killed an armed intruder in the Algiers neighborhood of New Orleans late Wednesday night.
According to WDSU, a news release from the New Orleans Police Department confirmed that a 28-year-old man and his 36-year-old wife were sitting on the patio in their backyard when a masked gunman approached the couple and demanded money. The suspect then ordered the couple into their home, where three female children ages 6, 13 and 14 were inside.
The husband managed to retrieve his firearm and shoot the suspect. He was pronounced dead on the scene. The homeowner and his family were unharmed during the incident.
Police said the suspect was 25 years old. They haven’t been able to find any connection between the suspect and the homeowner.
The incident was reported at about 10 p.m. in the 1800 block of West Homestead Drive.
