Manhattan Gun Range Continues to Thrive Amid Restrictions

Amid some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country, the Westside Rifle and Pistol Range — the only commercial gun range in Manhattan and one of the few places where residents can legally practice using a firearm in the New York City area — continues to thrive.

Owner Darren Leung told FoxNews.com the success of his business is due to those very same restrictions put in place by the government.

“We’ve often said that our government is our best gun seller,” he said. “Every time they say something people go crazy and they start running out and buying a lot.”

According to FoxNews.com, the range is a trusted institution at this point, having first opened its doors in 1965. Alot of their clients are police officers, due to the fact that the NYPD Police Academy is just blocks away.

Education is also an important element of the West Side Rifle and Pistol Range.

“It really makes us feel good that we can actually entertain and educate the population about enjoying firearms and not being afraid of them and not saying that it’s a bad thing,” Leung says. “It’s a sport and people should enjoy the sport and people should try to understand it a little bit better.”
