“It got a lot of peoples’ red flags going up and they started to get very concerned,” said Don Melnick, owner of Israeli Krav Maga in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, where just such a class will take place on Monday, Nov. 3 at 2:30 p.m.
“We’re teaching practical self-defense techniques,” Melnick told Philly.com. “We want them to feel that they can do their jobs effectively.”
As Philly.com reports, the new self-defense class for realtors will take place the first Monday of every month, and each session will have a theme, from safety during open houses to meeting with clients and general situational awareness.
“They’re meeting with people they may not know and going to houses [where they may be] in situations they’re not prepared for,” Melnick said.
According to Philly.com, Melnick has teamed up with realtor Cathy Walters from South Jersey on the curriculum. Walters has had her share of unnerving experiences as a realtor, including being stalked for over a year.
The class is open to all real estate professionals. The cost of attendance is $25 per session.
“As realtors, we’re always looking to protect the interest of our clients, sellers and buyers, but there comes a time that you have to protect yourself or you’re not going to be good for anyone else,” Walters said.
To sign up for the class, call or e-mail Don Melnick at 856-428-5728 and Don@israelikrav.com.
