The seminar operates under the Redlands PD’s Street Smart program, which is “designed to increase participants’ level of awareness and minimize their risk of victimization,” the statement reads.
There are three components to the seminar: presentations by members of the Redlands Police Department, hands-on self-defense training, and a question and answer session centered around personal safety.
The class is open to women and girls ages 12 and up. Participants are encouraged to bring a light lunch and wear loose clothing and comfortable tennis shoes. The cost of attendance is $15. All proceeds from the seminar will go towards the Street Smart Self Defense program.
Taught by Redlands Police officers, Street Smart is an after school program for children and teenagers. It is designed for kids ages 6 and older. Classes take place at 3:45 p.m. every Friday at the Redlands Community Center.
To register for the women’s self-defense and safety seminar, call (909) 798-7572 or email personalsafety@redlandspolice.org. The Redlands Community Center is located at 111 W. Lugonia Ave. Visit Street Smart on Facebook at www.facebook.com/pages/Redlands-PD-Street-Smart-Self-Defense.
