Boker Plus Rescom
Columbia River Knife & Tool: M16-12ZE
Having the right rescue tool on hand can mean the difference between life and death when you’re in an emergency. With a flood of products hitting the market, however, it’s hard to know where to start looking. To help, writer Steven Dick took to RealWorldSurvivor.com to spotlight 13 of the best emergency rescue tools which could help save the life of you and your family.
The first rescue tool featured is the Rescom by Boker Plus. “Developed at the request of the military to help troops free themselves from wrecked vehicles, the Rescom offers a serrated, one-hand-opening, 1.785-inch blade of AUS-8 stainless on a handle of fiberglass-reinforced nylon,” Dick writes. “The 4.5-inch unit weighs only 2.4 ounces.”
Multi-tools are critical for survival in an emergency situation. Case in point: the Brous Multi-Tool (BMT), which “is a handy keychain-sized multi-tool that actually includes a number of other useful features besides its seat belt cutter,” Dick writes. “These features include bottle opener, pry bar, nail puller, screwdriver and gradual hex driver. In extreme situations it can also serve as a self-defense weapon. The BMT weighs 0.5 ounces and is 2.7 inches long.”
In terms of knives, Columbia River Knife & Tool offers top-notch options, such as the M16-12ZE. “Based on a popular design from custom knifemaker Kit Carson, the M-16-12ZE Emergency Rescue Folder offers a 3-inch AUS-8 stainless blade with a tango point,” Dick writes. “The spine-mounted, blade-opening “flipper” becomes a combination handguard and seat-belt cutter once the blade is extended into the “open” position. There is also a window-breaker point mounted on the glass-filled-nylon handle. The 3.6-ounce M-16-12ZE measures 7.3 inches long when fully extended.”
