A local business owner in Montebello, California shot and killed two armed robbers in self-defense over the weekend.
According to CBS Los Angeles, the incident occurred outside a restaurant on the 2100 block of West Whittier Boulevard at around 12:20 a.m. on Saturday. The restaurant was already closed for the night when two men armed with handguns approached the owner outside and attempted to rob him.
Unfortunately for the suspects, they weren’t the only ones armed. The owner happened to be carrying a gun as well. A shootout ensued.
“One of the suspects fired a couple of rounds at the victim and the victim was able to return fire and as a result we had two suspects that were killed in the robbery,” he said.
Police discovered one suspect with multiple gunshot wounds at the location of the incident, while the second was found in the 100 block of North Wilcox Avenue with a single gunshot wound. Both died at the scene. They were later identified as 23-year-old Kevin Fierro of Los Angeles and 21-year-old Roger Soriano.
The owner’s watch and wallet, which had been taken during the robbery, were also recovered, CBS Los Angeles said.
Lt. Vuncanon added that the restaurant owner was shot in the stomach, but is expected to recover.
The investigation into this shooting continues, but this appears to be a justifiable self-defense shooting on the part of the restaurant owner.
