The owner of an automotive shop in San Antonio shot and killed an armed robber at his business earlier this week.
KSAT reports that two men drove to Vail’s Industrial Park, located in the 2400 block of Gerald Avenue, at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. One man stayed in the car while the other exited the vehicle, approached the owner, drew a gun and started demanding money.
That’s when the owner grabbed a handgun of his own and opened fire.
According to FOX San Antonio, the suspect behind the wheel of the getaway vehicle was fatally wounded during the exchange of gunfire. Police believe the other suspect was injured as he fled the scene, either by gunfire or accidentally being run over by his accomplice who crashed the would-be getaway car after being shot. He is still at large.
No charges have been filed against the business owner in connection with the shooting thus far.
“At this point, it appears to be self-defense, based on the information that we’re gathering,” Officer Doug Greene of the San Antonio Police Department told KSAT. “That could change. We’re looking at every angle at this particular case to see if the owner was in the right to defend himself.”
