One of the more recent trends that seems to have emerged in the aftermath of a school shooting is citizens either destroying or turning in their firearms in symbolic support for gun control. Former porn star Mia Khalifa has done just that, opting to turn in her shotgun to the Austin Police Department in the wake of the Santa Fe High School shooting last week.
Mia Khalifa Turns In Shotgun
Khalifa took to Instagram over the weekend to announce to her seven million followers that she was ditching the scattergun.
“It’s symbolic and small, but it’s still something. I urge you to #DoSomething as well,” she wrote on Instagram. “@austin_police couldn’t have made it any easier, if you want to turn in your weapon for safe destruction, call your local police department, they will come pick it up. Or transport it in the trunk of your car and have them come out to retrieve it at the station.”
Khalifa added that she is “not against the 2nd amendment,” but she is “against children dying. My empty gun rack is a small price to pay when some parents are living with an empty bed in their children’s rooms.”
In addition, Khalifa said she would be donating the shotgun’s value—$1,500—to gun control organization Everytown for Gun Safety.

While she claimed in the post above that buying the shotgun didn’t make her feel safer, Khalifa had no qualms about posting a photo of it a year ago in order to intimidate a stalker:

Khalifa also announced her decision to get rid of her shotgun on her Twitter account:
I’m turning in my gun to the police today and leaving my gun rack empty, just like the beds of all the lost children. I’m not against the 2nd ammendment, I am against the untimely deaths of children.

I will be donating the gun’s value ($1,500) to the @Everytown organization. Having it doesn’t make me feel safer, but relinquishing it does make me feel like I’m setting an example. Every small action matters. #DoSomething

They couldn’t have made it easier. Thank you, @Austin_Police for picking up my weapon for safe destruction. This may not effect anyone but, but it’s symbolic. If all of us were to #DoSomething small, eventually it will add up and change the world. pic.twitter.com/sgnT70aigE

Background
The Lebanon-born Khalifa began her pornographic film career in late 2014. She left the business after less than a year after receiving death threats from ISIS, largely due to a scene in which she wore a hijab while performing, according to the Daily Mail.
