It’s official: After a series of lopsided primary losses, Bernie Sanders has finally dropped out of the presidential race. While there’s little doubt that the proudly self-proclaimed socialist would have been an unmitigated disaster for the country, he was the least anti-gun of the original zany cast of Democrat candidates vying for the highest office in the land. But now that means it’s “Joe Biden 2020” for the Democrats.

Joe Biden Becomes Presumptive 2020 Democratic Candidate for President

“Together we have transformed the American consciousness as to what kind of nation we can become,” Sanders told his supporters during the announcement. “Our movement has won the ideological struggle.”

While that is untrue, it is scary that an unabashed socialist would gain at least some acceptance in our country. However, that’s not the immediate worry. With Sanders’ long-overdue departure, “Shotgun” Joe Biden is left as the last man standing on the Democrat side; that’s bad news for America’s law-abiding gun owners. Biden’s long record of anti-gun activity will certainly continue should he become the next resident of the White House.

‘Shotgun’ Joe Biden

As a U.S. Senator, Biden proudly voted for the Clinton gun ban of the 1980s. He still touts that ineffective ban to this day. He also opposed the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act. It aimed at preventing frivolous lawsuits against gun manufacturers for acts committed by criminals. He did that while voting for legislation banning semi-automatic firearms; banning hunting, sporting and self-defense ammunition; banning magazines holding more than 10 rounds; and imposing a waiting period on handgun sales.

In February 2013, in response to questions about armed self-defense, Biden famously said, “If you want to protect yourself, get a double-barrel shotgun. … I said [to my wife], ‘Jill, if there’s ever a problem, just walk out on the balcony here, walk out, put that double-barrel shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house. I promise you whoever’s coming in is not going to.’”

More recently, Biden said at a campaign appearance in Seattle, Wash., “Why should we allow people to have military-style weapons including pistols with 9mm bullets and can hold 10 or more rounds?”

Biden’s recent announcement that he would bring failed presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke into his administration to handle gun-control initiatives leaves even more to fear. Readers will likely recall that O’Rourke has never met a gun-ban scheme he didn’t like. He even proclaimed at one Democrat presidential debate, “Hell yes, we’re gonna take your AR-15, your AK-47.”

Anti-Gun & Unfit

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, Democrats seem intent on pinning the death and destruction on President Trump since their ill-fated impeachment attempt didn’t pan out. And since their candidate, Biden, has little to offer, the campaign has turned completely to a Trump-bashing fest, with little effort to speak of any virtues Biden might have.

In the meantime, Biden has taken sheltering in place to a whole-new level, especially for a presidential candidate. His recent gaffs, flubs and memory losses, as well as his newfound propensity to ask prospective constituents if they want to step outside, has apparently resulted in his advisers forcing him to stay out of the public light.

Biden showed us again how classy he really is a few weeks ago by telling a factory worker he was “full of sh*t” for saying the former vice president wanted to ban guns. Biden even told the man he had no intention of banning his “AR-14s” if he became president. While he’s plenty feisty, Biden’s propensity to want to fistfight political opponents is yet another reason he should be flatly rejected on election day.

For gun owners and freedom lover, now is the time to rally around President Trump in this November’s general election. A Biden presidency would be devastating for law-abiding gun owners, and likely for our children and grandchildren. With him seemingly coming off the rails of late, don’t be surprised if the Democrats manage to get a far-left gun-hater as his running mate. Keep in mind, that running mate would quickly step in should Biden become (even more) unable to serve.
