Here’s How to Reach Out to ATF About the Pistol Brace Re-Classification

The latest gun control bomb dropped last week with the official publication of the ATF Notice for pistol brace re-classification. With around 4 million of the previously ATF-approved pistol stabilizing braces (PSB) in circulation, the notice reeks of regulation sparked by the oncoming Biden-Harris White House. In that regard, it brings the ominous undertones of impending doom for the PSB as we know it. Nonetheless, the ATF is taking comment before it makes its final decision.

ATF Solicits Public Comment on Pistol Brace Re-Classification

The ATF solicits comments from now through Jan. 4. Yes, it even opened for comment over the holidays—how nice of the ATF. The National Shooting Sports Federation (NSSF) is also asking for comments. The NSSF seeks gun owners and businesses voice industry concerns. Above all, the NSSF suggested responses should be professional and thoughtful; this isn’t the place to rant and rave.

NSSF Suggested Comments for Industry Professionals

• What does this rule mean to your company?
• How much do arm braces contribute to your annual sales?
• What questions do you have regarding the objective factors?
• How could the objective factors be made specific and concrete to help remove subjectivity in the classification process?
• What are your concerns with mandating the registration of stabilizing braces under the NFA?
