A violent attack ended with a good guy with a gun — only this time, that “guy” proved to be a 12-year-old boy. The youngster defended himself and his family against two armed intruders who shot his grandmother. The incident occurred Saturday in Goldsboro, N.C.

12-Year-Old Boy Shoots Intruders

Authorities say two armed men allegedly entered a home during the early morning hours, reported CNN. They demanded money from 73-year-old Linda Ellis. Then the suspects allegedly shot her.

Ellis’ 12-year-old grandson then intervened. Police say he fired “in self-defense,” reported CNN. The gunfire reportedly struck at least one of the intruders. Police found 19-year-old Khalil Herring in the street, suffering from a gunshot wound.

“Preliminary evidence suggest(s) Khalil Herring was one of the two masked intruders and was shot during the robbery,” police said, according to CNN.

Officials transported both Ellis and Herring to a local hospital for treatment. Doctors later pronounced Herring dead, while Ellis received treatment for non-life threatening, reported CNN. The woman remains in stable condition at press time.

Some are already beginning to herald the boy as a hero. His family says his actions saved lives that fateful morning.

“(The intruder) just shot his grandma … He would have shot him too, he would’ve shot me too, he would’ve killed us all,” Randolph Bunn, the boy’s great uncle, told CNN.

Of course, stories showing good citizens with guns fly in the face of the current administration. On Sunday, President Joe Biden announced his plans for sweeping gun control legislation.

Biden’s plans come on the heels of the most guns sold in American history. So now more than ever, responsible citizens want firearm ownership. And many want high-capacity magazines and so-called assault rifles as well. For many, they just want the option to be armed equal or greater than the threats against them.

Because in a world where 12-year-old boys have to save the day, gun control is an absolute joke.
