Good news just came in the form of politicians standing up to President Joe Biden’s attack on the Second Amendment. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) recently announced he would officially oppose the nomination of David Chipman as ATF director.

Senator Pat Toomey Opposes Chipman Nomination for ATF Director

“Meaningful progress on gun safety will only be possible when members of Congress and the executive branch drop the politics and hyperbole and focus on the possible,” Toomey said in a statement. “That likely will not happen if the ATF—the law enforcement agency tasked with enforcing the nation’s firearm laws—cannot be impartial in carrying out its duties. … As such, I am unable to support [David Chipman’s] nomination to lead the ATF.”

The NSSF quickly came out in support of Toomey’s stance opposing Chipman. The NSSF stated the opposition attempts to ensure the ATF remains a fair, impartial law enforcement and regulatory bureau. It further helps stem ATF becoming a political tool for gun control special interests.

“…This decision protects the men and women of the ATF working hard each day to carry out their critical mission,: said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “David Chipman’s nomination is clearly a move to politicize the ATF. Confirming a gun control lobbyist as director would not only do irreversible damage to ATF’s mission but it would also harm the cooperative relationship between our industry members and ATF.”

NSSF, Gun Industry Working With ATF

The NSSF and firearms industry share a long-standing, cooperative relationship with the ATF. The entities routinely partner with ATF to achieve compliance. Other programs help fight to keep firearms out of the hands of those not allowed to possess guns. The NSSF previously supported every ATF director nomination. That includes B. Todd Jones, nominated by President Barack Obama, and later confirmed by the Senate.

“NSSF encourages President Biden to withdraw the nominee and nominate an unbiased, more qualified person to run ATF, someone the industry could support,” Keene said.
