The “mostly peaceful protests” (riots) over the past couple years have revealed a dangerous new tactic—blinding officers with lasers. It is a malicious tactic intended to cause irreparable harm and has already claimed the sight of a few officers. Not to mention pilots who have been on the receiving end of laser pointers over recent years. For this reason, Gatorz Eyewear launches its new Laser Defender Technology to combat the dangerous tactic.
Gatorz Ballistic Glasses with Laser Defender Technology
The new technology is available in two of the company’s popular Ballistic frames, the Magnum and Specter. Gatorz took high-impact resistant polycarbonate lenses and infused a special light-absorbing dye. As a result, the glasses block out the most common and harmful laser light wavelengths.
Because there are multiple types of lasers with different wavelength variations, they provide four options. First, the Daytime lens has a 23% VLT (visible light transmission). Second, the low-light lens offers a 40% VLT. Third, the Infrared lens provides 51% VLT. And finally, the low-light photochromic lens can shift between 40% VLT and 12% VLT, depending on the light you are exposed to.
Each of the lenses provide necessary protection from the different variations of laser wavelengths. These include red, blue, green, violet, and invisible infrared.
Like all Gatorz ballistic eyewear, the frames are constructed from a lightweight, durable, aircraft-grade billet 7075-T6 aluminum. Likewise, each frame provides excellent overall coverage and are adjustable to you for maximum comfort.
Additionally, the lenses are compliant with ANSI/ISEA Z87.1 2015 standard and meet MIL PRF 32432A, Clause 4.8.4 Ballistic Fragmentation Protection. The lenses are also impact tested to withstand two hits from a .15 caliber projectile between 700-725 FPS, without cracking, shattering, or dislodging.

While this may not be completely necessary for civilian use, who knows when pointing lasers in peoples’ eyes will become the next TikTok challenge. Fortunately, it looks as though the addition of the new technology doesn’t add too much to the overall price.
